涙がこぼれないように

79. Kyu Sakamoto - "Ue o muite arukō (Sukiyaki)" (Toshiba-EMI, 1961)

I finally watched the much (and deservedly) lauded Taiwanese film Yi Yi today, and there's a version of this song in it. Not so long ago, I had no clue what song this was, or even that it was Japanese. It was just a melody I knew, maybe from the Touch of Honey version or from one of the many times it has been interpolated (Slick Rick and Mary J Blige have both done that). Almost every time I hear it I have to think twice about what it is, but my first thought is always that it's a damn moving melody.

I got this song a few years ago when I downloaded a random compilation form the 60s for some other song. It came up on my shuffle one day, and I've loved it ever since. So relaxing!
